PO-RALG AND MNRT VISIT THE USAID RESILIENT COMMUNITIES GOVERNANCE PROJECT
The USAID Resilient Communities Governance project hosted representatives from PO-RALG and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism at its satellite office in Sumbawanga DC. During the visit, the project highlighted four years of promoting community-centered governance of local arable land, miombo woodlands, rivers, lakes, and wildlife in the Sumbawanga and Nkasi DCs.
LEAT staff presented the achievements, including the facilitation of 18 inclusive land use plans (nine of which have been gazetted), the planting of 400,200 tree seedlings, and the implementation of accountability mechanisms in the project villages. Together, representatives from the ministries discussed the need to further empower the primary custodians of the forest, the villagers.
