LEAT Hosts Training on Forest Law Enforcement and Compliance

LEAT continues with its important training program at the Morogoro Hotel in the Morogoro region. The training, aimed at strengthening forest law enforcement and regulation compliance, brings together participants from 12 districts, including Kibaha, Kisarawe, Rufiji, Kibiti, Bagamoyo, Chalinze, Morogoro, Mvomero, Kilosa, Kilindi, Handeni, and Pangani. Participants include staff from the Tanzania Forest Service (TFS), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT), and Local Government Authorities (LGAs).

The program is designed to enhance participants' skills in key areas such as extension services, human rights, and the introduction of new legal and technical methods to improve forest governance. By equipping forestry staff with practical knowledge and tools, the initiative aims to improve the enforcement of forest regulations and ensure that forest management practices are both effective and sustainable.

Hon. Robert Makaramba, a retired Judge of the High Court of Tanzania, is facilitating the training. This session marks the second in a series of capacity-building programs being implemented by LEAT in MCDI. The goal of these programs is to strengthen the capacity of staff from the named institutions to enforce regulations and contribute to more sustainable forest management practices across the value chain.

Through these efforts, LEAT aims to foster improved forest ecosystem integrity in target communities by strengthening governance and regulatory frameworks. This will support the development of sustainable cooking energy solutions, ultimately benefiting both local communities and the environment. By integrating these principles, the training will help ensure that forest resources are managed responsibly, contributing to long-term ecological health and sustainable livelihoods.
