Neno LEAT ni kifupisho cha maneno ya Kiingereza "Lawyers’ Environmental Action Team" ambayo kwa Kiswahili ni "Timu ya Wanasheria Watetezi wa Mazingira kwa Vitendo". LEAT ni asasi ya kiraia iliyoanzishwa mnamo mwaka 1994 na kusajiliwa rasmi mwaka 1995 kama asasi ya vyama vya kijamii. Mnamo Novemba 2001, LEAT ilibadili muundo wake na kuwa kampuni isiyokuwa na mtaji wa hisa chini ya Sheria ya Makampuni. Kwa usajili huo katika Sheria ya Makampuni LEAT ni asasi ya kiraia isiyotengeneza faida yenye kutetea na kukuza umuduji, ulinzi na matumizi dumivu ya mazingira na rasilimali zake.

It is registered under the Companies Act Cap 212 R.E 2002 as a company limited by guarantee without a share capital.

A legal component will address legal and institutional related issues based on the findings and recommendations from a detailed legal and institutional study to examine issues surrounding governance structure in the management of Pugu and Kazimzumbwi forests. This component is being implemented by LEAT. This study was conducted at the beginning of the project. The study seeks to inform the project and enable an effective and detailed design and planning to ensure that all relevant legal and institutional related issues are adequately addressed during implementation.
